Firefighters tackled a major blaze at a recycling plant in Bourne yesterday - just three months after a previous fire at the premises.

Crews from Bourne, Market Deeping, Billingborough, Corby Glen and Stamford, and the water carrier from Holbeach, were called to RW Riddle, in South Fen Road, just after 10.50 yesterday.

Three main jets, two hose reels and a portable pump were used to tackle the fire.

A Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said 1,000 tonnes of scrap and plastic recycling materials were destroyed in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

In September more than 800 tonnes of recycling material caught fire at the premises, sparked by friction from an unknown item on a conveyor belt.
