Planners behind a new super-dairy in Lincolnshire held a meeting with residents, after telling the Echo it was to be cancelled.

According to Farmers Weekly Interactive, representatives from the potential Nocton Dairies proposal met with residents at Nocton village hall yesterday afternoon.

A meeting had been planned to take place last night, but the Echo were sent a statement reading: "We feel that because of the level of national interest the project has generated, the proposed meeting will no longer be the best forum for local residents to be able to voice and discuss their genuine concerns."

But it has now emerged the meeting was instead held at 2.30pm, although neither residents or the press were given notice of the change of time.

For a full report on the meeting, see www.fwi.co.uk/Home

A further meeting, arranged by Nocton Parish Council, is being held at the village hall this evening from 7pm.

“As per usual big business doesn't give a damn about local residents. Lies, lies and more lies. Check out their website to see more manure about how little it will affect the local area. If it's jobs for locals then why the accomodation block? No one wants it but with enough backscratching at government level and the fact the councils can't afford to go to court on appeal, it'll get built.”

“This was not a meeting to which residents of Nocton or any of the other affected neighbouring villages were invited - The applicants chose to drop in on a pre-arranged lunch for some of Nocton's more elderly residents. Let's face it, there is no legal requirement for them to meet with local neighbours, but this is an interesting interpretation of the concept of public consultation...”

“If Nocton Factory Farm is ever built the smell will be so bad the county will have to change its name to "Stinkolnshire".”

“If this story wasn¿t written at the same time as the one yesterday, in readiness to be published today, I¿d be amazed. Call it what you will, but this was obvious it was going to happen.
I have no axe to grind either way, nor do I have an opinion, but diversionary tactics are common place in planning when people like this want to steer the debate down the positive route in their favour. And also want to avoid rent-a-mob who have one agenda only, and it¿s non-negotiable or debateable.”

“Surely if this was a "Secret Meeting" then Nocton Dairies have something to hide - it would appear that they are looking to "Divide and Conquer" by splitting people up into small groups - is this form of selective "locals" a propaganda ploy? Surely anyone within a 10 mile radius will be affected by this "Farm"
I smell something very untoward going on - far more toxic than slurry!”

“What kind of meeting is it when you tell everyone you cancelled it, and then turn up several hours earlier and sit in an empty hall?
Now the dairy owners can say "Well we held a meeting with local residents and nobody turned up so clearly there are no real objections to the proposals and we can continue with it unhindered!"

I dont really have any major issue with the dairy as such as I dont really have any real information about what they are planning, neither does anyone else for that matter. But I do have to say that this action they took yesterday smells of them trying to avoid any kind of serious questions to answer and I feel that they have instantly given themselves a huge amount of negative publicity and ammunition to their protesters.

All very shady for a company that should be reassuring the communities they have the best interests at heart! They should be automatically refused any permission to do the dairy until they at the very least hold a valid meeting!”

“Jim, try to be a bit less transparent.

It's blatantly obvious that your 6 mile zone is completely arbitrary and chosen purely because Branston will fall inside it and thereby give you carte blanche to stick your nose in.

And I suspect this sort of thing is precisely the meeting was held in secret.”
