THE grieving family of a Lincoln man shot dead in the Philippines have condemned his killer as a "maniac" and spoken out about the nightmare they are facing.

James Bolton, 50, is believed to have been murdered by a suspected serial killer who is accused of taking the lives of eight other people since July 12.

Now the Bolton family are mourning his loss and coming to terms with the fact that they will not be able to recover his possessions that were stolen during the robbery.

Speaking on behalf of the devastated family, his 21-year-old daughter Rebecca said: "It seems not only has he been killed by that maniac, his apartment has been ransacked.

"Everything was stolen so we can't even have any of his personal belongings for memories."

The family are now struggling to raise the money they need to repatriate Lincolnshire-born Mr Bolton.

Miss Bolton has set up a Paypal account and a Facebook page called Bring Our Dad Home to raise the £10,000 to return him to his Northampton home.

Miss Bolton said: "He was a good man, a caring father, with three children and six grandkids.

"He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

"Everyone who knew him will miss him. We have tried every official avenue for help, but to no avail. This has left us crying for help."

So far, the campaign has failed to raise more than £500 and the family have said they will donate any extra money raised to children's hospices.

"While we are grateful to the few who have already donated, we are miles away from getting him home," said Miss Bolton

"We just want to bring him back so we can give him the funeral he deserves and say our goodbyes.

"Getting him home would give us a bit of hope from what has been a nightmare situation.

"He has not only been murdered, his apartment has also been ransacked and everything stolen. This means we can't even have any of his personal belongings for memories."

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "Consular assistance is being provided to the family."

“After reading all these comments it seems there are some busybodies who just like to get involved and others who just like to put in their tuppence opinion.
At the end of the day, sadly, this man is dead! A corpse repatriation does cost money but an urn with ashes costs a fraction of that. At least his remains would be back on British soil and his family can have a funeral/service for him. He left his homeland with few or no funds available to him and was enjoying life doing his own thing. That was his decision.
I know he wouldn't have expected to be murdered but one should take precautions for every eventuality.
I realise that low income earners don't get much chance to save these days and students have large overdrafts with banks to pay for the "good life" while at college or university.
I feel for them losing their Father but personally they should go for the quickest cost efficient solution to this problem. They could be waiting months to raise £8000 or even £10000.
Be dignified, let his body be cremated and have his remains flown home and be thankful for small mercies.
    RIP James Bolton.”

“Yes, Justlaa I can afford to sit here everyday, or anywhere else come to think of it. I don't need a begging bowl to get me out of a hole I've dug for myself!”

“If Mr Bolton had invested in adequate insurance I'm sure this problem would not exist. But, it does exist, so live with it, and don't expect other people to foot the bill.
Life's tough sometimes. If you can't be bothered to look after your own mortality, why should anyone else!”

“I believe that Mr Bolton was living in the Phillippines and so wouldn't have had holiday insurance. I hope the family get the help they need, my sympathies are with them”

“I think we have to assume, Mushroom, that, for whatever reason, Mr Bolton had no insurance.

It's a very sad situation for all the family, but it would be quite wrong for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to have agreed to pay the costs out of the public purse.”
