Seven Lincolnshire swimmers are to represent the Midlands at the National Schools Final in London in October.

The swimmers from Lincoln Vulcans, Trenton Dolphins and Louth and Deepings School were successfully selected to swim in the Division Four team representing the Midlands Schools on October 23 and 24 at Crystal Palace after racing at the qualifying gala at Braunstone Leisure Centre, Leicester.

Four Lincoln Vulcans will make the trip to the capital.

Alex Manley (William Farr School) will race the senior 100m breastroke, Hayley Williams (Yarborough School, Lincoln) will compete in the intermediate 100m freestyle and freestyle relay, Sarah Fountain (Bourne Grammar School) is set to battle it out in the junior 100m breastroke and freestyle relay, and Oliver Bitowt (Kings Grammar School Grantham) is in the intermediate 200m IM and freestyle relay.

The other three Lincolnshire-based swimmers see Marcus Cook (Deepings School) racing in the junior 200m IM and freestyle relay, Louth Swimming Club member Harry Maw (King Edwards School) battling it out in the junior 100m freestyle and freestyle relay, and Trenton Dolphins swimming Club member Robyn Dand (Queen Elizabeth High School) competing in the junior 4x50m freestyle relay.

The Midlands Division Four team also comprises of 19 Nottinghamshire swimmers, eight Leicestershire competitors, one Warwickshire swimmer and one from Northamptonshire.

The Midlands region Division Four boasts five Swim 21 Performance Clubs, including Nova Centurion (Nottingham), City of Leicester, Derventio (Derbyshire), Northampton and Lincoln Vulcans.

It made for strong competition and many national-qualified swimmers were competing for places to represent the Midlands Schools in London in October.

Lincolnshire Schools swam well against teams from Warwickshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire and took second place to Nottinghamshire in the gala.
