Seven-wicket Sorby inspires Hartholme to title glory
Hartholme are the champions of the Lincolnshire League Premier Division, with Haxey runners-up and Cleethorpes 2nds taking third place.
In their final game, Haxey missed out on the title after suffering a five-run defeat away to fourth-in-the-table South Kelsey.
Hartsholme triumphed by five wickets on their visit to Broughton, returning home to Lincoln with a maximum 20 points in the bag after Matt Sorby took seven wickets.
Cleethorpes 2nds chased down a daunting 233 to win away to Alford, who are now facing relegation after Barton Town gained the few points required to preserve their top-flight status during a home victory over Bracebridge Heath 2nds.
In Division One, there was a shock for second-placed Scunthorpe Town who suffered a 19-run defeat at the hands of relegated Alkborough 2nds.
But Appleby-Frodingham 2nds kept alive their hopes of sneaking a promotion place when an undefeated century by Vince Grimes helped see them home against Nettleham 2nds.
Meanwhile, Grimsby Town 2nds – already facing the drop – lost to Scothern and slipped to the foot of the table.
In Division Two, Louth 2nds secured the championship, topping 200 during a comfortable victory over Hartsholme 2nds. With Hykeham promoted as the second-placed team, nothing much mattered when third-in-the-table Caistor 2nds against Holton-le-Clay 2nds was eventually abandoned due to bad light.
New leaders of Division Three are Outcasts 2nds, but they managed only 12 points after Immingham Blossom Way batted through 45 overs to make 93 for six. Seven points behind the leaders, second-placed Haxey 2nds go into their final game on Saturday knowing exactly what they need to take the title.
Already-relegated Keelby 2nds triumphed by four wickets at home to Scunthorpe Town 2nds, while Hibaldstow won a one-wicket thriller against Cherry Willingham 2nds.
The exciting scramble to secure the second promotion spot in Division Four remains unresolved after Stamford Homes lost and rivals South Kelsey 2nds won.
Kelsey inched home by two wickets in a low-scoring match at Morton.
But Stamford Homes missed out against Brigg Town, whose 20-point haul means they will not have to seek re-election.
Also safe from that fate are Hykeham 2nds – Alan Ashton taking a hat-trick and hitting a half-century in their home win over bottom side Scunthorpe Town 3rds.
Playing their final game of the season, Market Rasen 2nds beat fellow strugglers Alford 2nds to clear the danger zone.
