A CONVICTED sex offender who failed to give police details of his new address after being released from prison has been jailed for 12 months.

Marcus Bird, who was required to register his address with police, told officers he was living in a flat at Kenning House on Lincoln Road, Skegness.

Andrew Scott, prosecuting, said officers later visited the address and discovered Bird was not staying there. They later arrested him at Wainfleet.

He told them that he had intended to go to Kenning House after his release on October 31 but was so disgusted with the state of the property that he slept rough and then obtained alternative accommodation in South Parade in the resort.

Mr Scott said Bird had served five previous jail sentences for failing to notify his address after being placed on the sex offenders' register for five years in July last year following his conviction for exposing himself in front of a young child.

Bird, 40, of South Parade, Skegness, admitted breach of the requirements of the sexual offences register.

Judge Michael Heath told him: "You have persistently failed to comply. If you keep on breaching your obligations the sentences will get longer and longer up to the maximum."

Neil Sands, defending, said Bird had committed no further sexual offences.

"He returned to the area where he said he would be and he didn't try to hide his identity when he was arrested.

"He understands that he is the author of his own misfortune."
