MORE shoppers have contacted the Target to say that they have been deterred from shopping at Asda after wrongly receiving parking tickets.

Last week the Target reported on Owen Brown from Shaw Road who received a £70 penalty notice from Town and City Parking Ltd for parking at Boston's Asda store all day, when he had in fact called in twice and visited Mablethorpe in between.

Since then, the Target has received complaints from more shoppers who found themselves in a similar situation.

One lady, from Antons Gowt but who asked to remain anonymous, visited the store twice one day back in August.

She said: "I went in on my lunch hour for a snack and a paper and then in the evening I came back into town for a meal and dropped in again for a couple of items.

"They said I'd parked there from around 1.10pm until 9.10pm. If they are going to monitor it, they have to have machinery that works properly.

"I know of a local taxi firm that has had hundreds of these tickets.

"I told Town and City Parking I am not paying it because I have done nothing wrong.

"I don't shop there any more and Asda are losing customers obviously because of this company they have got in there at the minute."

She added that although her fine had now been cancelled, she was still waiting for answers as to why she received the ticket in the first place.

Town and City Parking Ltd did not respond to the Target's request for a comment. However, a spokesman for Asda said there had been a glitch with the camera system which meant the alignment was out.

He said: "We know being able to park quickly and easily is one of our customers' top priorities and we want to make sure there's space for everyone. But it sounds like this time our ticket system was a little over-enthusiastic.

"The camera glitch is now fixed and shouldn't be handing out any more rogue tickets. We apologise to customers for the mix up."

Asda says it has also increased the free parking time limit from two hours to three hours to make sure that any shoppers taking a little extra time are not caught out.

“Does anyone actually beleive this was a 'glitch', at the very least it was incompetence, personally I think that it was intentional, how could it not be?”
