'Silver surfers' in Lincolnshire given help to learn about internet and social networking
AGE need not be a bar to using the internet or social networking sites, as discovered by residents in Horncastle.
The Sellwood Gardens Computer and Social Learning Group is open to anyone over 60 who wants to meet new people while learning about computers and the internet.

LOGGING ON: The Sellwood Gardens Computer and Social Learning Group in Horncastle welcomes new people to join them to learn about how to use a computer and the internet.
The group started in 2007 when it was led by a tutor and now the group runs itself with the assistance of a volunteer who gives advice and tips on using new technology.
Last year, the group received funding from the Big Lottery Fund towards a selection of computer products.
Secretary Ann Hurns said: "The group is very social and people can come and go as they please. Some come to go on the internet, while others come to play games such as solitaire on the computer or go on an online tutorial. We are all at different stages as people learn what they want to do."
Regular member Shirley Wilkinson was using the social network site Facebook for the first time.
She was shown how to make contact with people and she left a message for her cousin. She said: "The group is marvellous. I was nervous when I first started using the computer but coming here has helped me grow in confidence."
The group has taught members things such as how to use folders, send e-mails, use Skype and watch programmes online.
It also has regular Nintendo Wii sessions where members play games such as ten-pin bowling.
Chairman Brenda Balmer said: "I look forward to coming here twice a week as they are a nice bunch of people. Learning IT skills is a necessity for people over 60.
"I have family in Australia and before I would just write a letter at Christmas but now I can keep in touch with them all the time. The computer has also helped me make arrangements for a trip."
The group is open to anyone over 60 – not just residents from the Sellwood Gardens area.
The group meets every Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to noon.
