Skegness and Mablethorpe get silver awards in East Midlands in Bloom competition
SILVER is the new colour being associated with the Lincolnshire Coast following successes in this year’s East Midland’s In Bloom competition.
Communities in both Skegness and Mablethorpe are celebrating now that judges have revealed both towns were graded silver in the coastal resort category.

GREEN FINGERS:Young people from Mablethorpe youth forum have recently been planting daffodil bulbs and evergreen honeysuckle plants to improve the garden after the recent In Bloom judging.
In other communities, Theddlethorpe achieved bronze in the village category and Burgh le Marsh received a certificate of achievement in the large village section, as well as a judge’s special award for the new committee.
The competition is more than just enhancing the area with flowers, it is about pride of place and getting as many community groups involved as possible.

And next year there is an extra push for Skegness to set the standard as the town will host the In Bloom awards presentation for the first time in the competition’s history.
Stefan Krause, Skegness Town Centre manager was delighted with the result, which also saw a judge’s award for the Sea View walk area.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded silver again and to receive more points than last year.
“The special award is a celebration for all the community volunteers and their hard work.
“Next year we hope to do even more by incorporating the good work being done at Seagull Recycling as well as Gunby Hall.
“Each year the ladder is going higher and higher as we aim to keep on improving.”
Mablethorpe In Bloom committee also repeated its silver success from last year.
Karen Froggatt, Mablethorpe Town Manager, said: “It was great to see that the judges noted an enthusiastic community, working hard to improve the area.
“Within the It’s your Neighbourhood category, the Neighbourhood Management Trusthorpe residents forum, received a level 5 outstanding award for its work on the Trusthorpe triangle and the youth forum a level 4 award, which was a fantastic result and very well deserved.
“We hope that these excellent results will encourage more involvement from both the business and resident community so that we can build on the successes achieved so far.”
Councillor Tony Bridges, portfolio holder for the environment at East Lindsey District Council has praised every community for their successes.
He said: “The East Midlands In Bloom awards are a chance for the community to become involved, in some cases working in partnership with the district council, to improve the local area through great planting schemes.
“On behalf of the council, I would like to congratulate all those who have been successful and in doing so ensuring East Lindsey is a bright and vibrant place to both live and visit.”
