TWO men who stole a television and ring during a night time burglary in Skegness have been jailed at Lincoln Crown Court.

Ivan Clements, 29, and Spencer Hughes, 23, admitted entering the unoccupied flat in Grovesnor Road after a door was left open.

The alarm was raised when the tenant of the flat returned home from visiting a friend and discovered the items were missing.

Police rushed to the scene and found the two men carrying the television which they falsely claimed had been given to them by a relative, the court was told.

Clements tried to run away but was quickly apprehended and found in possession of the stolen ring.

The pair, both of no fixed address, made no comment when questioned by police but later pleaded guilty to the burglary.

In mitigation the court was told both men had spent 73 days on remand in prison since the burglary on November 20, last year.

Hughes was sentenced to five months imprisonment which meant he was eligible for immediate release.

The court heard Clements had two previous burglary convictions which qualified him for a longer manadatory jail sentence.

Jailing Clements for two years and five months Recorder Keith Raynor told him: "All burglaries are serious. It is an invasion of privacy. A third burglary is a third burglary."
