Skills are 'needed' for our tourism industry
BETTER staff training and improved infrastructure are the keys needs of the tourism industry in the Skegness area.
That's the claim by members of the Skegness Conservative Policy Forum who discussed the issue at their latest meeting at the Vine Hotel, Skegness.
On training, the group has called on the Government to set up a separate Sector Skills Council for tourism.
Members say the training opportunities for staff to develop people skills, including customer service skills, are not good enough and there need to be tourism qualifications which are nationally accepted and respected.

The group has also stressed to Ministers the need for investment in the infrastructure necessary for a successful tourism industry, particularly roads, passenger transport and improved broadband access.
The attractions and amenities which result from the area's holiday trade add greatly to the quality of life of residents, claims the group.
Special guest at the meeting was Chris Baron, resort director for Butlin's, Skegness and chairman of the local Destinaton Management Organisation.
