A TV documentary is to be filmed at this weekend's Lincoln Pride festival.

Sky 1 producers have chosen to film at the event – aimed at the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community in the city – as part of the spin-off show created following the success of Pineapple Dance Studios.

The show followed the lives of people working and training at the Covent Garden-based studios.

Crews for the fly-on-the-wall show will descend on the celebrations at The Engine Shed and Tower Bar in the University of Lincoln's Brayford Pool campus from noon on Saturday.

Laura Wint-McKane, chairman of The Pride Committee, which is organising the event, said: "It's a very exciting addition to have them filming here.

"They will be likely to want to do interviews with the crowds, take footage of people enjoying the acts and just get a general feel for the event."

Production company Pulse Films is shooting the show as a follow up to Pineapple Dance Studios.

The idea with the new series is to take in a broader spectrum of people as they attempt to break into the world of showbusiness.

The Sky 1 show is being created under the working title Showbiz, although this could change. A transmission date has not yet been confirmed.

Ms Wint-McKane: "The line up this year is reflective of what our communities have requested.

"We work really hard to organise an event that is inclusive for everyone. Lincoln Pride is about celebrating diversity, empowering people to be proud of who they are and having lots of fun in the process.

"To make it family-friendly, we're also having Peppa Pig and Bob the Builder."

Highlights at Lincoln Pride include X Factor finalist Danyl Johnson, local sensations Lost Souls and headline DJ Aled Jones of the BBC Radio 1 Chris Moyles Show at the after party.

Jonathan Holmes, 19, member of the university's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Society, will be manning a stall for his organisation at the event.

He said: "The point of Lincoln Pride is to get people out and interacting with all aspects of the community and it will be very refreshing to see families as well as couples and single people."

All of the events during the day are free to enter. There is an after party at the Engine Shed, which costs £4 for tickets bought in advance from the Engine Shed box office or £6 on the door.

“The Straight Pride, Karl? Oh, it's on already. Everywhere. On every street corner.

In case it flew over your head, EVERY DAY is Straight Pride Day, because you've never had to hide who you are.”

“I'm amazed, only Karl standing up for the bigots. Come on bigots, you can do better than that. This is a perfect opportunity to air your half-baked notions for comedy benefit of the rest of us.”

“I am not against the Pride event. But I do believe it reinforces a stereo-typical view of what it is to be gay and how gay people behave, unfairly. The gay people I know are just ordinary blokes and to look at and work with, are not different from anyone else. Not all gay people are flamboyant or drag queens.”

“If you feel that strongly about it karl, why don't you get off your backside and organise one? Just make sure the entertainment you offer is better quality than Danyl Johnson, Lost Souls and Aled Jones and I'm sure it'll be a winner.”

“Yeah, there are worse things in he world than being gay you know, unless you're a biggott or something, and that's usually because you're uncomforable with your own sexual identity. What is wrong with gay pride? OK so I'm not gay, I couldn't care less who is or isn't it's just a parade, people having fun, Just what we need at the moment, cheer us all up!”
