Sleaford councillor blames 'party politics' on decision to quit Conservatives
PARTY politics have forced a Sleaford town and district Conservative councillor to resign from his party and become an independent.
Mark Allan says he will be able to better serve his constituency of Sleaford, Quarrington and Mareham without being tied by 'party politics'.

RESIGNED FROM PARTY: Councillor Mark Allan has become an independent.
He said: "It has been a difficult decision to leave the Conservative group at NKDC but my work in London on the 2012 London Olympics has now come to an end and I have been considering how to better represent the Sleaford residents in the Quarrington and Mareham wards.
"I have resigned from SNHCA and the Conservative group at NKDC because it has become evident to me that party politics – even at a local level – do not fit well with local democracy and being able to properly represent the views of the residents of Sleaford in my wards at NKDC and at the town council.

"I have found it frustrating to be called before the SNHCA executive to explain why I have voted at council committee in line with views of residents rather than in line with the local party requirements – which generally are those of the leadership at NKDC.
"SNHCA clearly feel that the party line is more important than the local representation. This is not my view, it is not why I entered local politics and nor do I feel that this would be what the Sleaford residents in my Ward would expect of me."
Mr Allan says his task as town councillor and district councillor is to ensure that the people of Sleaford are fully informed of any changes made by the councils, what these changes mean and that the Sleaford residents' views on these changes.
Mr Allan also resigned as chairman of the Sleaford branch of the North Hykeham Conservative Association.

“All councillors should be independent from any party politics.”
