With the help of his friend Dave the pair, who are on a darts team together, came up with the idea of attempting to break the world record which currently stands at 42 hours.

Mr Newman, 33, said: “I only started playing darts this winter but I’m confident we will beat the current record.

“I’ve Googled the top 10 ways to stay awake but I think we’ll just need plenty of coffee and Redbull on the go.”

The record attempt will be filmed from start to finish and for every hour completed the players can rest for five minutes – according to the official rules.

A representative from the darts world will also need to be on site throughout the attempt as a witness.

Mr Newman said: “We are still in need of some members from the darts world such as the British Darts Association, the Professional Darts Corporation or the British Darts Organisation to ensure that we officially break the record.

“We’ve had some interest through our Twitter account but no one has confirmed that they will be here yet so we’d love to hear from anyone who can help us out with this.”
