Boss Brian Rowland was thrilled with Sleaford Town's team ethic after his in-form side overcame St Ives on Saturday.

Town made it seven points from their last three games with a 2-1 home victory in the United Counties League Premier Division.

Jamie McCormack gave Sleaford a 19th-minute lead, pouncing after Gary Walters' shot had been saved by the St Ives keeper.

The visitors made it 1-1 before the break through Conor Washington, but Town's second half display was rewarded when Martin Wormall's cross was headed home by top scorer Miles Hunter six minutes into the second half.

The success completed an excellent week for Rowland's men, who drew 1-1 with Bourne last week and won 4-2 at Yaxley the previous Saturday.

"It was a really good performance against a good side," declared the Town boss.

"We played as a team and when we do that, we play well.

"The performances in the last few games have been very encouraging – that's seven points from three games now."

Rowland praised several members of his team, which featured 18-year-old goalkeeper James Drury, who, for a second successive game, was deputising for regular number one Andrew Scott, who was ill.

"James has come in and done really well in the last two games," added the Sleaford chief.

"Paul Ward was excellent in midfield and ran the game for us. Martin Wormall was very good too. He's played at a higher level, and you can tell."

Sleaford are back in action tomorrow night when they visit Stotfold.
