Two goals in the dying moments of the game enabled fourth-placed Long Buckby to rob Sleaford Town of two precious points in this final home game of the United Counties League Premier Division season.

Sleaford were leading from goals from man-of-the-match Ryan Oliver and winger Gary Walters, but substitute Charlie Ward gave away an 89th penalty and then poor defending led to the visitors snatching a leveller in the fourth minute of added time.

Despite the disappointment, Town manager Brian Rowland remained philosophical.

"At 2-0 up with just minutes to play we really should have won," said Rowland.

"It was a disappointing way to lose such a comfortable lead, but I suppose if I had been offered a point against this opposition, I would have taken it.

"Nonetheless, we should have held on, it was naive defending."

Good news on the selection sheet saw a return for left-back Adam Fenton, his first outing since breaking his leg back in September.

There were further substitute roles for the youngsters Charlie Ward, Tom Vertigan and Ben Greenwood, all having a run-out before the end.

The first half saw chances spawned by both sides.

Town's Jamie Shaw nodded straight at the keeper after a flick-on by Oliver.

Minutes later Buckby wingman Greg Ling went on a good run only to send his shot just too high.

Following a very good Sleaford move involving Tom Ward, Shaw, Oliver and Jamie McCormack, Gary Walters had a hard drive palmed round the post by the keeper.

From the corner, Khameel Spence rose to head over the top.

The best chance fell to Buckby striker Dan Holman who hooked over from close range.

The opener came on 38 minutes when Walters slipped a through-ball for Oliver to take in his stride. With two defenders between him and the goal, he twisted and turned to hold off the challenges and hit in a superb finish.

Shaw had two half-chances early in the second half as Town took the game to their opponents.

A long ball from Tom Ward skidded off a defender for Oliver's header to look a certain goal only to be touched against the top angle by the fingers of the keeper.

Fourteen minutes from the end it looked safe for Town when Walters jinked his way through three defenders to hit in a fine solo goal.

In the last minute of normal time, young Charlie Ward bundled over Dan Quigley inside the box to give away a penalty, duly converted by Ben Foster.

The visitors were rampant and four full minutes into added time they won a corner that was poorly defended, with Ling slamming in a volley from close range to salvage his side a point.

TOWN: Scott, T. Ward, Ajimoko, Spence, Fenton, McCormack, P. Ward, Giles, Walters, Shaw, Oliver. Subs: C. Ward, Vertigan, Greenwood.
