Contrasting days last weekend with an overcast, humid and ultimately wet Saturday, followed by a dry, bright and breezy Sunday, the rest of the week following much the same two day pattern.

A few fish all round for Sibsey AC on the Trader but the total weights at that were nothing to write home about, writes Barry Mallett.

The Smiths ruled the day as Kevin notched up his first win on the venue this year and left Duncan, his brother, trailing in second and Derek clinching third place with another pound plus weight of bits.

It must be said though that other larger fish were either lost in the weed or snagged in the landing net, especially by Kevin who claimed to have lost a few eels on his way to first place.

1 Kevin Smith 2lbs 8ozs; 2 Duncan Smith 1lb 14 ½ ozs; 3 Derek Smith 1lb 3ozs.

Stickney AC fared a little better on pegs a little further back towards Boston.

There, the odd small bream or two made the difference as Chris Chapman eased to victory with a little under 10lbs.

As is usually the way of the Sibsey Trader Drain he was the only one to see any larger fish as John Briggs claimed second with a net of bits, a few ounces ahead Kevin Hunt with much the same sort of catch.

1 Chris Chapman 9lbs 12ozs; 2 John Briggs 3lbs 13ozs; 3 Kevin Hunt 3lbs 7ozs.

A similar crushing win for Ben Brighton as Fishtoft AC tackled Royle's Lake at Leverton and here many small carp to 2lbs gave Ben an overwhelming margin of nigh 40lbs to keep Gordon Manning well down in second place.

After that the match was much tighter and only 4ozs separated him from Mark Cook and another 4lbs plus to Mick Morgan.

1 Ben Brighton 75lbs; 2 Gordon Manning 35lbs 12ozs; 3 Mark Cook 35lbs 8ozs; 4 Mick Morgan 31lbs.

Those fishing the Boston & D.A.A. club championship on August 9 should meet at the draw (8 am).

A reminder at this opportunity that any team also wishing to participate should ring Barry Mallett on 01205 871815 to enter; teams of six £20, plus pools extra on the morning.

The Monday evening sweep on the Windsor Bank section of the Bargate Drain produced another string of decent weights in the time allowed.

Roach, perch and skimmers all fell to the simple pole and pinky tactics with big maggot also taking its share of fish.

Ben Brighton made it two wins in two days, using entirely different tactics this time of course, and beat Brian Clark at two pegs away, by a few ounces.

Similarly, Brian did the same to Mark Cook and with Dave Simpson finishing in the 5lbs category, the average weight came in at over 4lbs.

1 Ben Brighton 8lbs; 2 Brian Clark 7lbs 6ozs; 3 Mark Cook 6lbs 8 ½ ozs; 4 Dave Simpson 5lbs 3ozs.

Next Monday the sweep will remain on the Windsor Bank section.

The spectre of the dreaded blue-green algae has again shown itself on the Hobhole Drain system, which also includes the Kelsey, in the last few days.

Not confirmed until results come back from the Environment Agency but anglers are asked to take the usual precautions until then and, after that, the drainage board will be erecting the usual warning signs prohibiting fishing in the affected areas if that proves to be the case.
