A TOWN council is considering adopting a snow and ice management plan.

Horncastle Town Council is considering adopting an emergency plan to help make some town centre streets more accessible during adverse weather.

This follows a similar successful scheme which is in practice now by Woodhall Spa Parish Council.

At a meeting of the town council, members heard praise for the fact that the town's car parks were clear from the recent snow and that shopkeepers and residents had made efforts to clear the area in front of their own homes and businesses.

The emergency plan could also see some volunteers appointed as 'snow wardens'.

Councillor Bill Aron said the Stanhope Hall group has bought a salt gritter which can clear the car park in half an hour.

He said: "If it is properly organised, certain streets and areas can be cleared relatively quickly."
