The presentation to the school was made on the six month anniversary of the opening ceremony.

Lincolnshire and Loughborough were the only places in the East Midlands to have been selected to host teams for the Paralympics.

Councillor Doreen Stephenson, who is 2012 champion for Lincolnshire, said: "We appreciate the support we got from the staff here at St Bernard's and the powerlifting team went on to do very well."

Janet Inman, chairman of the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership said: "We were talking to the Egypt team for a long time and due to the political unrest over there, there was a point where we thought we wouldn't get anyone to come here. We started talks with the paralympic team and they said they would love to come."

Many volunteer opportunities were also created from the team coming to Louth.

Lea Mason, headteacher at St Bernard's, said: "It was a real privilege to host the team and was a great cultural experience for students and staff. The plaque will form part of a display as the athletes left us with some mementoes of the pyramids and some papyrus."

The Lincolnshire Sports Partnership will be distributing power-lifting equipment used by the athletes to venues across the county, including the Meridian Leisure Centre.
