Staff walk out at Sutton Bridge river crossing in pay protest

Lincolnshire County Council officials are operating the Cross Keys Bridge on the A17 at Sutton Bridge after a walk-out by workers.

Three workers downed tools in the early hours of this morning, heralding a week-long protest over pay.

Trade union Unison claims the weekend pay allowance has been cut by Lincolnshire County Council without the agreement of staff or the union.

The union says members have seen their take-home pay cut by around 13.5 per cent as a result.

But the county council says they are included in a collective deal already agreed with its 6,000-strong workforce.

The bridge is one of the main routes connecting Lincolnshire and Norfolk.
