Stamford igloo builders shocked and delighted by public response to town's 'coolest' property

The talented trio who built Stamford's igloo in Wharf Road are shocked and delighted by the public response to the town's 'coolest' property.

Brothers Eric (25) and Lewis Clayton (28) and their friend 24-year-old Adrian Gilbert spent the best part of three days constructing the impressive ice house.

And today Eric got in touch with stamfordpeople after spotting the story online.

He said: "We had no idea the igloo would cause such a stir - we are shocked, but delighted.

"We just had some spare time and it seemed like a good idea.

"It was great fun to build and we are pleased with the result.

"We've seen at least 150 people taking photos of it so it's made other people smile too."

The trio used a small square washing up bowl to make the building blocks and then filled in the gaps by hand.

"It's not a bad size - we did manage to squeeze five of us into it, but it was a bit of a squash," added Eric

This isn't the first time Eric and his brother, both of Brownlow Terrace, have created a stylish snow home.

"Last time it was more of an snow house though.

"It was square and had windows complete with lintels.

"This was our first go at building an igloo.

"It's a very stable structure and is still standing and looking good," added Eric.

The trio admit moving a Watson Mitchell To Let sign 'a couple of feet' and placing it next to the igloo.

But Kim Downs, Property Manager for the Gooches Court-based office, said told stamfordpeople no one had shown any interest in the icy property.

"Most people are looking for something a bit bigger with central heating.

"I've had lots of posts on my Facebook page enquiring whether it has WiFi, how much the council tax is, whether it's furnished or unfurnished, that sort of thing - it's caused quite a stir.

"I had to smile when I noticed a pint of milk had been left in the doorway this morning when I drove past," she added.
