AN Oscar-winning actor from Lincolnshire will play disgraced former American president Richard Nixon.

The movie Dirty Tricks, will be star Jim Broadbent who set up the Broadbent Theatre in Wickenby.

The film is set during the Watergate scandal and focuses on the wife of Nixon's attorney general John Mitchell, played by Meryl Streep.

It looks at the true story of Martha Mitchell, who blew the whistle on the scandal and the price she paid for speaking out.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Annette Bening have also signed up.

The 59-year-old actor will play the President, who in the face of likely impeachment for his role in the Watergate scandal resigned on August 9, 1974.

The film follows the recent release of Frost/Nixon, which looked at post-Watergate television interviews between British talk-show host David Frost and Nixon.

The movie is due for release next year, although no date has been set.
