PLAYERS are already dusting off their football boots and limbering up for Skegness Football Funds 2011.

Now in its second year, the Skegness Town legends are preparing to take on a community All Stars team of familiar local faces in a charity football match.

The event is the brainchild of local entertainer Stefan Michaels who was inspired by a Soccer Aid match at Old Trafford to try and recreate something similar in Skegness for the benefit of the community.

This year's event, which takes place on August 21, will raise money for the Butterfly Hospice and the Lincolnshire Branch of Macmillan Cancer Support and hopes to build on the £1,500 raised for the Nick Adams Room Appeal in 2010.

Stefan said: "Involving the community and keeping it local is what it's all about.

"We've also got the Lincolnshire Early Presentation of Cancer Project joining us which is great because as well as it being a fun day we also want to raise awareness for people of different forms of cancer.

"We've got some familiar faces from last year in the All Stars who wanted to get involved as soon as they found out it was happening again but there will be a few new faces on both teams."

Playing for the Target Series sponsored Skegness Football Funds Trophy, the Legends are all out for revenge following their 4-3 defeat last year.

The match will kick off at 3pm at Skegness Town football ground with pre-match entertainment on the pitch and activities throughout the day for children and families. During the evening there will be a event in the clubhouse with vocalist Vicky Jay already confirmed and more expected to follow.

Stefan is now appealing for local businesses to support the day by donating raffle prizes. Plumb Tech has already pledged its support by buying the All Star's kit.

Stefan said: "Hopefully businesses will come forward to support this by donating some good raffle prizes.

"We're also on the look out for a marching band or something similar to provide live music on the day, last year we had to rely a lot on pre-recorded music because the cost of a band is quite high."
