Steve Swinburn is hoping an eye-catching performance in front of the Sky Sports cameras will grab boxing's attention when he returns to action next month.

The light-welterweight will fight on the undercard of Jamie McDonnell's European bantamweight title defence against Malik Bouziane at Sheffield's Hillsborough Leisure Centre on March 3, writes Leigh Curtis.

An opponent is yet to be confirmed, but Swinburn is hoping to put on a show whoever gets the nod to face him.

He maintains that an impressive performance could lead to greater riches especially if his bout is shown to the nation.

"I am really looking forward to it because it is on the undercard of a really big show and obviously the Sky cameras will be there," he said.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for me to grab everybody's attention and show what I am capable of.

"I am six fights undefeated and I intend to keep it that way and hopefully deliver a performance that makes people sit up and say 'who is this kid?'.

"It happened once before, in my second fight, when Frank Maloney asked who I was as I stopped Joe Smith in the second round.

"That made him take notice of me and I know it can happen again if I do well next month.

"I should find out a couple of weeks before the fight who I will be facing, but whoever it is better be prepared because training has gone really well."

Swinburn has not fought since last October when he was held to a draw by Newport journeyman Jay Morris.

But the result was shrouded in controversy as Swinburn's promoter and those watching at ringside felt he had won the six-rounder.

But the judges could not separate the two and even now, Swinburn cannot understand the decision.

However, he hopes next month will be a lot more straightforward in what will be a four-round fight.

"It was a travesty really," he said.

"Even now I still cannot quite work out how I was not given the decision by the judges.

"Even Dennis Hobson my promoter told me in the last round that I had the fight in the bag and he isn't going to say that if he did not believe it.

"It was incredible really, but on the positive side, it was a draw against a really tough cookie.

"Jay beat Curtis Woodhouse, who later won a rematch. He also took Alex Arthur a full eight rounds too.

"So knowing that, and knowing that I clearly won the fight, it has given me so much confidence.

"In all honesty it was a farce, but there's no point dwelling on it. I will look to put it right next month."

Swinburn is selling tickets for the show and he can be contacted on 07534 177452.
