TOP GEAR: Students at Cordeaux School in Louth have designed their own racing car with £500 sponsorship from NT Shaw of Louth. Pictured are Kevin Drabble and David Smith of NT Shaw of Louth (left) with headteacher Peter Kubicki, with pupil Beth Sefton, teacher Vikki Lord and pupil Tom Law and pictured right from left: pupils Ciaron Clarke, Vicky Hickson and Kieran Campbell.
The students have been working on the project for several months during their lunch times to design a car to compete against other schools nationally.
The project received £500 sponsorship from NT Shaw of Louth and if Cordeaux students win, they could be treated as VIPs at Silverstone where they will get to meet Formula 1 drivers.
The students have called themselves Bullitt Racing in recognition of the Steve McQueen film.
Pupil Tom Law said: "As our name is Bullitt we wanted to design a car like a bullet. We looked at the aerodynamics of Formula 1 cars and thought about what features our car needs."
Student Ciaron Clarke said: "We did research into bearings as well as look at the history of Formula 1 and how it has developed. I have really enjoyed working on the car and am looking forward to see how well it does."
The students will watch the car, which is manufactured by Denford, being tested on Thursday by Corus at Scunthorpe.
As well as car features, the students will also give a presentation and present a portfolio of their work.
David Smith, sales manager at N T Shaw of Louth, said: "We were happy to help Cordeaux School. It is a nice way of doing something with the local community and as it relates to cars, it was an ideal opportunity for us."
