Students from around the Sleaford area make the grade with publication of the 2009 GCSE results

THE wait was over for Sleaford's younger students today (Thurday) when they received their GCSE examination results.

There was cause for celebration at The Lafford High School, in Billinghay, with news that 53 per cent of pupils achieved five or more A*-C grades and 26 per cent were awarded 5 or more A*-C grades including English and mathematics.

A total of 33 of the 51 Year 11 students in gained 10 or more GCSEs and 11 students gained 10 or more GCSEs at Grade C or above.

Carre's Grammar School pupil Kieran Hardern was among those singled out headteacher Nick Law for his achievements.

Kieran was awarded 13 A* grades and one A.

Mr Law said: "It has been another year of very successful results."

At St George's College of Technology, 88 per cent of students achieved five or more A*-C grades.

Almost every pupil passed five GCSEs - an increase of nearly five per cent on 2008.

One of the most notable achievements throughout the area was that of 13-year-old Kesteven and Sleaford High School pupil Jeanette Cheung.

Jeanette gained an A* in Dutch.

In all, 98.3 per cent of the school's students attained five or more GCSEs at grades A*-C.

Over at Coteland's School in Ruskington, students and staff were celebrating news that more than 50 per cent of GCSE pupils achieved grade C or above in English.

A total of 25 per cent of those who sat the GCSE exams received 10 or more GCSEs at grades A*-C.

At the time of publication, the Target had yet to receive a comment from The Aveland High School, in Billingborough, on its performance.
