Students at St Francis School get a taste of apprenticeships at 'Have a Go' event
Lincoln College, in partnership with our business training provider Aspire, encouraged students at St Francis Community Special School to 'Have a Go' as part of Apprenticeship Week.
The event was led by real life Apprentices studying various programmes at Lincoln College. Forty learners had a fantastic opportunity to have a go at interactive activities and become honorary apprentices. There were a number of different workstations including Joinery, Catering, Painting and Decorating, Hairdressing and Sports, offering a skills sharing experience for both Lincoln College apprentices and the learners. By the end of the day, the honorary apprentices had mug trees, cupcakes and colourful stencils made using techniques taught by Lincoln College apprentices.

Jill Robson, Post 16 tutor at St. Francis School, was extremely pleased with how the day turned out; "The students had an amazing morning and were all very proud of their achievements. We have had some lovely feedback from parents about the mug trees that they all took home. It was wonderful that all our students, whatever their disability were able to take part and the Lincoln College staff and apprentices showed great empathy with all our young people. There was a superb "buzz" surrounding all the 5 activities and it was just lovely for our school to be involved."
Students sent letters of thanks to the staff and apprentices who attended the event, and expressed how much they enjoyed working with the Lincoln College tutors and apprentices and the range of activities on offer.

The event helped to start National Apprenticeship Week, which officially began on Monday 11th March. Rachel May, Director of Employer Engagement, at Aspire said, "The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2013 is 'Apprenticeships Deliver'. We are celebrating achievements of our apprentices and benefits of apprenticeships to both a business and an individual apprentice throughout the week. With the "Have a Go" event our apprentices shared the skills they have developed through their training for the benefit and enjoyment of St Francis students."
