PAUL AND JIM ANDREWS MEMORIAL MATCH

THE third Paul and Jim Andrews Memorial Match was held last Sunday and an impressive 64 anglers turned out at North Clifton and Laughterton – and what a day of sport they had.

Paul Goulding (Sensas North) drew peg one at North Clifton and was probably disappointed with not drawing a better peg as this peg has not been used in a match this season.

Goulding fished the groundbait feeder with worm and caster and caught big bream for a final weight of 81lb 4oz. This broke the venue record for a second time this season.

Runner-up in this match was Steve Whitfield from peg 14 at Clifton, another unfancied peg.

Whitfield caught bream and skimmers on the feeder with caster and worm and eventually tipped the scales with 64lb 1oz.

Third, from peg 11 at North Clifton, was Simon Fields who weighed in 49lb 4oz which were all skimmer bream.

Keith Clifton (Garbolino/Harrisons Lincs County) was on peg two at North Clifton and managed 47lb 11oz for fourth place in the match.

This match was sponsored by Lincoln Volkswagen Specialists Ltd and on the day £314 was raised for charity and Lincoln and District Angling Association kindly donated the pegging fee from the match which allowed the total of £442 to be split between the Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.

TIDAL TRENT CHAMPIONSHIP

The week before last Scunthorpe D.A.A. held their popular Tidal Trent Championship match.

The venues were at South Clifton, North Clifton, Laughterton, Dunham and Besthorpe and in total there were 58 anglers who turned out for this match.

Overall, the fishing was not as good as it had been over recent weeks but the top four places all had over 20lb of fish at the end of the day.

Best on the day was Barnsley rod Mick Vials from peg 23 at North Clifton. Vials fished the groundbait feeder with worm and caster and caught bream and skimmers for 26lb 14oz.

Bridesmaid on this occasion was Jeff Margetts who was drawn at end peg 41 at Laughterton.

Margetts also fished the groundbait feeder and he caught bream and barbel for a final weight of 22lb 6oz.

Third on the day was Nick Atkins of Worksop. He caught bream and skimmers on a groundbait feeder from peg 35 at Laughterton.

Newark Federation veteran angler Colin Walton drew peg 26 at North Clifton and also fished the feeder with worm and caster. He ended the session with 20lb 5oz of skimmers and bream. The sections were awarded on default and A Section was taken by Garbolino/Harrisons Lincs County angler Roger Woolhouse with 9lb 8oz. Darren Robinson took B Section with 9lb 7oz, C Section was won by the unstoppable Dean Smith (Lincoln Whisby AS) with 6lb 8oz and E Section was Sensas North rod Paul Goulding with 6lb 1oz.

WINDMILL TACKLE OPEN

A total of 22 anglers turned up last Saturday to fish the latest match in this series on Manor Lake.

Paul Harsley (Dave's Peg) seems to have the right tactics on this complex as he once again won this match by fishing his long pole and pellet combination.

Harsley was on peg 21 and eventually weighed in 97lb 12oz. Not too far behind, from peg seven was Alan Clearey (Northwood Transide AC) from Northumberland who is down there on holiday. Clearing fished the ground bait method feeder with banded pellet for 92lb 2oz.

Third place went to Dynamite Match Supplies angler Graham King. King also fished banded pellet on the method feeder from peg five for 61lb.

Nathan Underwood (Windmill Tackle) was fourth with 59lb 5oz from peg four. Next week's match is on Moat Lake. Anyone wanting a ticket should contact Barry Gadsby on Tel 01400 27384.
