Supermarket expansion to create 150 jobs
PLANS to massively expand the Sainsbury's supermarket in Lincoln could create up to 150 new jobs.
The retailer wants to almost double the size of its current Tritton Road store.

The Sainsbury's store in Tritton Road.
It also plans to significantly increase the number of product lines it carries.
The announcement is being hailed by many as a significant boost to the local economy at a time jobs are being cut.
Just 24 hours earlier, it was announced that 300 posts could go in county hospitals.
The proposed development would see the car parks at Sainsbury's and the neighbouring retail park joined up to create a major new retail hub.
Now the supermarket is urging local people to snap up the jobs when they become available.
Ross Castle, Sainsbury's portfolio development manager, said: "This will enhance the shopping experience for our Lincoln customers."
But small traders warned that the expansion could force more shops out of business.

“Betty, I see what you're saying but I have to disagree with you.
It would be better for people your end of town, but I, and many others, live to the north of the city. There are few decent shops this way (for general shopping, we only really have 1 tesco and 1 waitrose - who are too expensive anyhow), moving one of those shops to the south end of town, when there is already a tesco, asda, sainsburys and morrisons that way, would leave this end with an unfair representation, and would probably create more traffic, not less, as people from the northern end would have to travel through Lincoln (not pleasant) or around Lincoln on the by-pass (sometimes even less pleasant) to do any shopping.”

“Instead of extending the existing, ugly, out-of-town site, how about building a proper shop in the city centre instead so we can all get to it and do our shopping in our lunch breaks?”

“Will, the shire...... I did know about Tesco's refurb on Wragby Road, but if there was one or even a M'sons near the by-pass near Pennells, then it would be better for shoppers this end of town and traffic off the town centre....”

“L Birk, I think you are getting mixed up with Lord Sainsbury who belongs to and has donated to the Labour Party.
He owns 6% of Sainsbury's shares, but he is not the company.”

“In the Sainsburys Accounts they state that they have not donated any money to any Political Party in the past year.”

“"It's good to know that Sainsburys are sufficiently confident to invest in extending their store despite the global recession"
Meh, it's not exactly a huge show of confidence, sooner or later things will be better, end of the day they're building for 10 - 20 years into the future, if you're cash-rich hence don't need to borrow now or are simply planning to wait until the credit market gets better, this wouldn't tell anybody anything.
"Just Bush needed to complete the deluded, loony-left full house."
Careful, some people in these here parts don't get irony.”

“I'm pleased to hear this because I use Sainsbury''s regular but am forced to use ASDA or Tesco to get certain Items that Sainsbury's in Lincoln do not stock. I do not begrudge paying a few pence extra per item as own brand foods are as good as leading brands, staff are friendlier and in general, foods are well stocked. Good luck with the expansion and my custom shall continue.”
