Lee Swaby confessed he will abandon promoting to concentrate on his boxing career after being given an almighty scare in his British Masters title defence at the weekend.

The popular city southpaw engineered a 96-94 points victory over Dave Ingleby having been forced to negotiate several set-backs to retain the crown on his "My Bloody Valentine" show.

Swaby suffered a flash knockdown in the second round before a major gash over his right eye after a clash of heads in the fourth threatened to hand Ingleby the title on a plate.

But the 33-year-old summoned an almighty comeback to win the verdict as Swaby admitted his performance had been affected by the pressures of making sure his show ran smoothly.

"I certainly made hard work of it and there were numerous obstacles that I had to overcome," he said.

"To get knocked down in the second, a massive cut in the fourth and then in the last two seconds of round 10 I was on the end of a massive headbutt to the cheek.

"Honestly, in the eighth round I just wanted to get out of there, but I sucked it up and managed to keep hold of the title which was the main thing.

"I can only put it down to the stresses of making sure the show ran smoothly and I really should have learned my lesson from the first one.

"But this is it now. I just want to concentrate on boxing because promoting and fighting at the same time is just too demanding."

Swaby admitted that everything that could go wrong with his show did go wrong as far as the boxing side was concerned.

Steve Swinburn's much-anticipated debut was postponed after his opponent, Dale Hutchinson, was not given the all clear by the British Board of Boxing Control because of a delay with his scans.

Attempts to fast-track them through also failed, while Eddie O'Rourke's opponent was delayed in traffic and in the end he had to fight Anthony Hanna over four two minute rounds.

But he emerged victorious on points.
