PETER SWANN has urged Gainsborough Trinity's success-starved supporters to "keep the faith" – despite the Blues' third successive defeat.

After hopes were raised following a 2-1 opening-day Blue Square Bet North victory at Worcester, Brian Little's team have since failed to bag a single point.

But chairman Swann believes there were enough encouraging signs in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at title challengers Alfreton – a game in which Trinity took the lead through Leon Mettam – to suggest happier times are not too far in the distance.

The Blues host third-placed Workington at the Northolme tomorrow (3pm), with the chairman in an upbeat mood.

"All I'd say to the fans is to keep the faith and we will get it right," said Swann, who is poised to add former Leeds United defender Andrew Milne to his squad. The Barrow central defender is set to join on a one-month loan deal.

"I believe we have the players and the manager to do it. If players don't have the right attitude then we will change them, but we've a tight-knit squad and there's definitely a good feeling among them.

"We just haven't got started yet but I'm confident we will 'go on a roll' soon.

"I really want to give the fans some entertainment and good results, as best we can. It's a really competitive league in which a lot of clubs will fight for promotion."

Trinity's latest test could scarcely be more difficult. Workington have begun their season in fine form, having won all four of their matches, although three of those games were clinched by just a single-goal margin.

Although Little once again will be without the services of striker Luke Beckett (thigh strain) and club captain and central defender Gavin Cowan (ankle), midfielder Josh Davies is set to return from a shin injury.

"Gavin is the best defender in the league and the good news is that he's moving a lot more freely now on his ankle," said Swann.

"Luke is still out but having Josh back is a big boost. He was named on the substitutes' bench on Tuesday and should be fit for Saturday."

On the subject of new players, Swann said although Trinity had a small squad they had identified targets who could make an instant impact.

"We are looking to bring in players to improve what we have.

"They should be ready to push for a place in the first-team," said Swann.

"It's about adding to the squad. We had a small group even before the injuries to Luke Beckett, Gavin Cowan and Josh Davies."

TRINITY: Barnes, Ward, Peat, Mayo, Clarke, Hume, Waterfall, Boyce, Hibbert, Mettam, McMahon, Aiston, Louis, Greaves, Spafford, Frost, Davies.
