The first open meet of the new season took place at Leicester with 22 Boston swimmers taking part.

Trophies were awarded for the first five swimmers in each age category and although very early in the season this meet gave swimmers their first opportunity to gain Midland qualifying times for next summer's championships.

Four Boston swimmers gained seven qualifying times.

George Hobbins (10) continued his fine form from last season winning seven of his nine races and finishing second in his other two.

George also gained Midland qualifying times in the 200m breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley and set a new county record of three minutes 19 seconds in the 200m breaststroke.

The Ikhena brothers produced some strong performances with Patrick (15) winning both the 50m breaststroke and butterfly in Midland qualifying times. Patrick also won the 100m butterfly and finished third in the 50m backstroke. Not to be outdone by his elder brother, Ose (15) also gained a Midland time in the 50m breaststroke when finishing second.

To finish off a successful weekend for the boys, Sam Wright (16) picked up three third place finishes in the 100m individual medley and 50m and 100m breaststroke but it was his 100m freestyle that gave him his Midland qualifying time.

Although the girls struggled to match the very high standard of the boys, they consistently produced personal best times with Kimberley Van-Haren (13) their most successful swimmer. She won the 100m butterfly, with four second and three third place finishes.
