Vadaine Oliver scored late on for Lincoln City.

Lincoln managed to pull one back just before the break when Jamie Taylor drilled home from close range.
After the interval Taylor went close again, but this time his header was cleared off the line.
The Imps turned up the pressure, with Boyce rattling the woodwork and City boss David Holdsworth brought on Conal Platt for his first game since he broke his leg.
But they could not reduce the arrears and Southport netted again after Owens squared for Karl Ledsham.City striker Vadaine Oliver headed home a late goal to lift the Imps, but they ultimately were made to pay for their early first-half mistakes.
Lincoln team: Farman, Robson, Boyce, Miller, Gray, Thomson, Power, Nicolau, Robinson, Taylor, Oliver.
Attendance: 815 (69 visitors)

“Hi Franky68 yes he probably was on a lot more money than anyone else at the club, however he would have had that contract "paid up" so I wouldn't have thought the club would have saved that much money by letting him go to be honest.
As for the late nights out, I doubt that too. Professional footballers are always being accused of that "old chestnut", when most of the time they are out at the correct time, as in when they have a day off after the night out. When fans see them out, it is then a case of "chinese whispers" and all of a sudden they are out nearly every night!”

“Gowling was a stirrer on and off the pitch.”

“I think Gowling was earning too mch from the massive contract Tilson put him on, from what I also heard too many late nights out. I would say it paid 3 players with D's udgetat that time.

“Well, young nigel, I agree with all of that except I wouldn't have Bore anywhere near the team. Still, I am sure you expected that.
I, too, would like to see Miller in the middle of the park alongside Big Mo who is really badly missed at the moment.

“We have not been good at the back all season, including the eleven game unbeaten run, and I know some of you will find it hard to believe, especially Franky68, but Farman was in outstanding form at that time, which for me, was the main reason for that run being maintained for so long.
Redimpsfan, the reason I asked you what your thoughts were regarding Gowling, was that in an earlier post on this story, you suggested that if Bore was our best rightback, "then he'd still be at the club"!
Well in my opinion, and probably yours, along with the majority of Lincoln fans, Gowling was by far and away our best centre back, and as yet, I have not seen anyone better than him in this league, so why isn't he still at the club?
As I have said previously, there are many factors as to why players come and go, and I suspect that in Gowling's case, he didn't get along/face didn't fit, with the manager, which could have possibly applied to Bore as well, who knows.
In my humble opinion, had Gowling stayed and Bore or Robson played at rightback, pushing Miller into midfield, just in front of Gowling and Garner, then my feeling is we would be in and around the play off places, instead of now facing either a possible relegation battle again, or only achieving mid-table mediocrity. I would have also kept hold of Nutter. A back line of Bore/Robson, Gowling, Garner, and Nutter with Miller sat in front of the centre backs, would have been a lot stronger than what we have been putting out.”

“Last season it took us 33 games to get 33pts
And 40 games to get 39 pts
This season we have played 26 games and have 32 pts
So no panic yet”

“Revolution9: It does'nt take managers long to find out our weakness, with a phonecall to other club managers to find out Farmans form, and apart from that why did'nt he see his best centre half on Tues had to be Miller with Gray reverting to fulback, and having watched the game our problem would have been solved, and when it seem Farman is giving goals away at average of 1-2 per game, we will find ourselves back in relegation,Preece should have started, he is back to full fitness. As I have said many times in the past we have a very strong suad ofplayers, and if DH uses th form players we would do very well. I know we have alot of injuries at present, but he could have put out a strong enough team against Southport, to have got a result.
A team will only play as good as you allow them to, we could have closed the game down alot more, nd efore anybody thinks I am whinging, and do not like DH , the case is far from that.I am just stating fact.
DH has done avery good job at this club but seems to loose his way a bit at times with the team selection.Lets wait and see what comes out of the Trust meeting with the Manager and players to-night.

“I think Nigel is suggesting that Josh Gowling was a great buy for another BSP team, despite not gettign a game with us.
Therefore we must not judge the new lad until he has played more than a few minutes for us.”

“3 points from a possible 15 and some very tricky games coming up; the Imps are deep in a relegation battle again I`m afraid.”

“Bit of a worrying dip n form with games against Newport, Wrexham, Luton and Forest Green before end of jan!....Still, we seem to do better against these types of clubs..
Either way, with only a 5 point buffer to the drop zone, its gonna be a tense February me thinks”
