TRAVEL: Freshers' arrival means a busy day in Lincoln city centre
Lincoln city centre is expected to be busy today as up to 5,000 first year students arrive for their first week at the two universities.
They will be heading for Lincoln by car, bus and train in preparation for freshers' week starting tomorrow at both the University of Lincoln and the Bishop Grosseteste University College.
But this morning's extra traffic will meet more delays than usual caused by the rail barriers near the university campus in Brayford Wharf East and High Street.
An additional three trains an hour are being diverted through Lincoln between 9.30am and 1pm today, following the extra passenger and freight traffic which normally uses the East Coast main line.

Also, there are replacement bus services running all day today on Northern Rail services between Worksop and Lincoln Central - and between Worksop and Cleethorpes - due to engineering works.
Roadworks will also cause delays across Lincolnshire.
Temporary traffic lights on the A15 Wragby Road in Lincoln at the B1182 Ruskin Avenue junction are expected to hold up motorists.
Similarly on Newark Road where the roadworks continue at the Brant Road junction.
Temporary traffic lights on B1398 Middle Street in Lincoln at the Breedon Drive junction are also the cause of delays.
On the A16 in Spalding, there are roadworks between the Wardentree Lane and Springfields roundabouts.
There are also temporary lights on the A1175 in Spalding between the B1172 Littleworth Drove and the B1173 Barrier Bank junctions.
More temporary traffic lights and junction improvements in Grantham town centre continue to be in operation on the A52 Bridge End Road and London Road at the Springfield Road junction will lead to more hold-ups.
Water main work means the temporary traffic lights remain on the A607 Main Road in Leadenham at the Sleaford Road junction.
And the B1520 Upgate in Louth is closed at the London Road junction, because of resurfacing work. A diversion is in operation.
