“And as a taxpayer of Lincoln I would rather nothing was spent on celebs rather than more (working on the fairly logical assumption that bigger celebs cost more money)”

“So Lincoln is the big city of Lincolnshire and The City of Lincoln Council announced the long serving front man for regional TV weather bulletins Jon Mitchell has been invited to perform the honour of switching the Christmas lights on. After some words from Jon Mitchell, the Mayor will officially switch on this year's lights at around 7pm..................Hang on a minute so Jon Mitchell will say a few words, so what possibly will Jon talk about erm oh year so he will talk about the weather then the Mayor will switch the lights on. WOW so exciting, can't wait.....................................................NOT ! I say rarther pathetic City council is that the best you could do, when just down the road in springfields ( Spalding ) they had Carl King, Paddy and Gennie of Emmerdale switching their lights on after a great performance from their band Edna's hat. Sorry but I am very disappointed and certainly won't be going to see the boring rubbish that Lincoln city council will put on this year !”

“Any reason why the Mayor doesn't do it? Don't they represent Lincoln?

What does a paid minor celebrity add to flicking a switch?”

“Someone said they wanted a star to turn the lights on, where does Ella Henderson fit in to that? She's just another manufactured wannabe from a second rate TV show.”

“WOW,congratulations to lincoln city council,I didn't think that they could scrape the barrel any lower than 'cannon and ball' (who only ever did it to advertise their panto) but they've managed it somehow, people will be drawn in from miles around, well maybe 1 or 2 miles if they've not got any paint they need to watch drying.
Why don't the shops cough up some money to pay for someone people will actually travel to lincoln to see like an actor or even a reality tv star, they'd probably make the money back in extra sales.”

“"This honour should have been given to our Olympic/Paralympic medalists."

Agreed. And Doug Stanhope should deliver the Christmas message. Have they still got the big TV screen from the Olympics? I'm sure some sort of satellite link-up could be arranged.”
