Tesco pledges to act over car park potholes at Horncastle store
A HORNCASTLE supermarket has pledged to maintain its car park following complaints from its patrons.
Local residents have voiced their concerns over the condition of Tesco's Bain car park.
Resident Mr Andrew Neal took the matter to Horncastle Town Council to find out who is responsible for the upkeep of the land.
Mr Neal said: "I am very concerned about the welfare of the car park's users as there are some deep potholes developing which someone could easily twist their ankle on.

"The recent wintry weather is also a concern as the car park is not regularly cleared and no-one inside of the store seems to know where the responsibility lies."
Although Tesco stores lease the land from East Lindsey District Council it is up to the lease holder to maintain and clear the car park.
Councillor Stephen Newton, who is a member of Horncastle Town Council and East Lindsey District Council, said: "Council operated car parks such as Tesco, Horncastle and Co-op, Louth are contractually required to be kept free from ice and snow by the rental operator."
St Lawrence Street and Market Place car parks however, fall into the council's responsibility.
A Tesco spokesperson said: "The safety of our colleagues and customers is very important to us, and we have listened to the concerns raised.
"During the bad weather, we will be making sure the car park is thoroughly gritted.
"Once the weather improves, we'll be able to fill in any potholes and look into fixing the area more permanently."
In response to Tesco's statement Mr Neal said that he is very pleased that the store is taking responsibility of the car park and looks forward to it being maintained to a good standard for the residents of Horncastle.
