The fight to get protective status for the Lincolnshire sausage has been backed by more than 10,000 people through an online survey.

The Lincolnshire Sausage Association has been campaigning to get protective geographical indication (PGI) for the much-loved banger for more than seven years.

  1. Lincolnshire sausages have been the subject of an online campaign

It would mean that the meaty treat would only be made within the county by local butchers and to a set recipe.

The plea for PGI status was turned down by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in May and the LSA has since launched an appeal against the decision.

But when asked: "Where would you expect your Lincolnshire sausages to be made?" through www.sausagefans.co.uk, an overwhelming 99 per cent – 10,346 – answered with Lincolnshire.

The LSA now plans on using this result to lobby ministers at Defra to reverse their decision.

Britpop stars Shed Seven and upcoming singer-songwriter Jake Bugg are the latest acts confirmed to play Lincoln's Engine Shed.

Following a summer of festival appearances including T in the Park and V Festival, Shed Seven have announced they are to play in Lincoln on Thursday, December 13.

The gig will be in support of their 15th anniversary EP, which features new versions of some of their most popular hits from the album A Maximum High.

Meanwhile, rising-star Jake Bugg will play at the city venue next year on Sunday, February 3.

The Nottingham-born musician will be supporting his eponymous debut album, due to be released on Monday, October 15.

Tickets for Shed Seven cost £17.50, while Jake Bugg costs £12, plus booking fee.

“No worries @Roadscource - for me, I only have to look down Newark Road at Bellamey's Butchers in North Hykeham - delightful bangers ;-)”

“Thanks steveburnley. I reckon some people have way too much time on their hands as, after all my post was nothing to do with a statement of fact on sausage recipes but merely a comment on it appearing that two stories had been accidentally combined.

As for sausages, it does seem unfair as Melton Mowbray got theirs and Cornwall got theirs too. It would however mean that the recipe would be standardised in which lies another problem - who makes the tastiest Lincolnshires in the region?”

“Can I refer you to section 4.2 Description - "The predominant flavours are those of pork meat and herb sage with salt and pepper seasoning to taste"

    Both points satisfied

C'mon Lincolnshire, by far the best banger in this country!”

“The Cumberland Sausage is a 'peppered banger', the Lincolnshire Sausage is mainly flavoured with sage and would be described as herby.

Do you ever get your facts right?”

    “ATTENTION THIS IS LINCOLNSHIRE !!!!

Is the above two seperate stories minced together and stuffed into the same skin? I dont see what Shed Seven and their upcoming gig schedule has to do with the Lincolnshire Sausage Association and the status of our peppered banger !”

    “C'mon Lincolnshire!
We're rooting for you to get PGI status for your much loved sausage.
PGI will keep the standards high and stop the imposters bringing down your good name.
Jon, a Lincolnshire sausage fan from Cambridge.”
