Time called on city pub
Metal shutters have gone up on the doors and windows of a Lincoln pub which shut on Monday.
Workmen were yesterday busy making The Peter De Wint pub, in Moorland Avenue, secure.

A "notice of peaceable re-entry" from the freehold owner Enterprise Inns has been put up near the entrance stating that it "re-entered the premises" on January 4 and the "lease is at an end".
Enterprise says it hopes to re-open the pub as soon as possible.
Chairman of the Damons Treble Darts League, Arthur Chambers, 66, is urging players to send all results cards to the Lincoln Moorland & Railway Sports and Social Club now that the pub has closed.
"It's a shame that is has closed as we used to have a few matches there," said Mr Chambers, who lives in The Mead, Boultham Moor.
"It's always sad when a local pub shuts and now the nearest places to it are The Parklands, in Boultham Park Road, and The Moorland & Railway and the Wagon & Horses, both in Newark Road.
"Maybe it's a sign of the times.
"Unless you're making money on food I don't think you're going to be doing very well."
The credit crunch, cheap booze in supermarkets and the smoking ban have been all cited as causes of several pub closures in Lincoln in recent years.
Vicky Averis, assistant to the chief operating officer at Enterprise Inns, refused to give a reason for the closure of The Peter De Wint.
But she added: "Enterprise can confirm the pub closed on Monday.
"However, it is our intention to re-open the pub to the local community as soon as possible."
The previous designated premises supervisor Shaun Morris was not available for comment yesterday.

“No, he was a fat, racist idiot. The distinction between that and 'stand up comic' is quite clear; I fail to see why you can't make it.”

“Bernard Manning was a true stand up comic, not a PC scripted one like we have to suffer now.”

“How times have changed.
In the 70's you couldn't get a seat on a Fri, Sat or Sunday night in the music room if didn't get there early. Once a month, Thursday night was cabaret night with such stars as Marti Cain, Cannon and Ball, Bernard Manning and many more who went on to become household names.
Fri, Sat and Sunday nights were the "free & easy" nights when local singers would get up and sing a song or three. Some were good & some not so good but it didn't stop people coming.
Pubs are only as good as their Managers and during the 70's the two Managers there were top class. As for the comment on fights - I honestly didn't see one.
How do I know all this? Well I played the drums there throughout the 70's with
George Cliffe and we had many good nights together and I was sorry to read the comment from his son that he was no longer with us.”
