'Traditions & Superstitions' at Museum of Lincolnshire Life
The Museum of Lincolnshire Life in Lincoln occupies a beautiful former military barracks built back in 1857. The Museum held a fantastic event this weekend called 'Traditions and Superstitions'.
One of the biggest exhibitions was the World War I room where you could look at memorabilia such as medals, weapons and uniforms. The tank was a genuine war tank nicknamed 'flirt' that was invented and built in Lincolnshire and it was very imposing when stood underneath it.

The event was a celebration of Lincolnshire folklore and fun with a variety of things to see from Morris dancing to herbal remedies and even a World War I tank! There were activities to keep the children happy which involved them making fly swat puppets and rag rugs, this was of course messy and lots of fun.
Many of the Victorian superstitions were based around food and herbs and Hannah Sylvester, a medical herbalist, was there giving demonstrations and talks to visitors about herbs and flowers and there medical uses to cure all manner of ailments. Hannah has some amazing knowledge on everyday remedies and was extremely interesting to listen to.

We asked Hannah what her favourite superstition was and she told us, "rosemary is my favourite as it was believed that if you put a sprig under your pillow at night it would help improve your memory" she went on to say that this has now been proved as Rosemary helps improve circulation especially to the brain.
The Museum of Lincolnshire Life is a wonderful place with lots to offer and entertain, if you ever get the chance to go it is a must on the 'list of cool things to do in Lincoln' and it's free to get in, what more could you want?
