Trophy success for Spilsby cobbler in Shoe Repairer of the Year competition
A SPILSBY cobbler has proved his talents in a national industry competition.
David Scott was one of only a handful of entrants to win an award at the Shoe Repairer of the Year competition, sponsored by German shoemakers Joh Rendenbach.
David, from Scott's Cobblers and Keys on High Street, has entered the competition for the last seven years but it's only in the last three that he has ranked amongst the winners.
David said: "You have six months to carry out the repair work and then send it in and they mark it.

"It's a leather sole and heel and has to be traditionally stitched back on. Then it's about cleaning of the uppers and the welting, trimming of the edge and the balance of the shoe.
"I personally did it in a week, some take six months but if you put it down and come back to it you have to pick up from where you left off. It makes a much nicer job doing it in one go. I have taken months in the past and come further down the field."
The competition has grown in numbers from the initial 20 entries to now upwards of 100.
David has been in the trade for the last 25 years, originally starting out in Mexborough, South Yorkshire, before working in Chesterfield, Wakefield, Nottingham and Sheffield, eventually opening a shop in Spilsby in December 2011.
He said: "It is quite a dying trade but if there's a cobbler there people still come and get their shoes repaired.
"It's a very satisfying job.
"The competition provides a challenge for me when you are trying to do it, you want to do the best job ever, but I try and put that level of craftsmanship into all my work."
David was presented with a trophy in an award ceremony at Sandown Park Racecourse in Surrey at the weekend.
