A couple who say they were driven out of their home by the "nightmare" hum of wind turbines have settled their £2.5 million compensation claim on secret terms.

Jane and Julian Davis, say they had to move out of Grays Farm, Deeping St Nicholas, near Spalding, four years ago because of the strain of living with the incessant "swish" of turbines at a nearby windfarm.

In a pioneering, but immensely costly, case at London's High Court, the couple set out to test the law on whether the sound of turbines can amount to a noise nuisance.

The couple sued local landowners – RC Tinsley Ltd and Nicholas Watts, on whose land some of the turbines are sited – as well as Fenland Windfarms Ltd and Fenland Green Power Cooperative Ltd, who own and operate the turbines.

All the defendants denied liability in the case.

The case was launched in July and was due to return to court on December 1. But Peter Harrison QC, for Mr and Mrs Davis this week announced a settlement had been reached.
