Over the past 16 months a number of witnesses have seen UFOs in the skies over Lincolnshire.

Since January last year, records show that six people have called the Ministry of Defence claiming they have witnessed visitors from outer space tracking the county's skies.

The latest report was just a few weeks ago on June 23 in Welton, near Lincoln.

The spotter described a bright, white diamond/orb-shaped object.

Other descriptions range from "cigar-shaped objects" and "groups of lights" to "silver discs" and "orange lights".

In February this year, the Echo reported that five low-flying lights were seen hovering across Lincoln Cathedral, although no call was put into the MoD by the public to document their presence.

Details of the UFO sightings by the public over the last five years were released in response to a Freedom of Information request by the Lincolnshire Echo.

Officially, the MoD's policy is to examine reports solely to establish whether UK airspace may have been compromised by hostile or unauthorised military activity.

Unless there is evidence of a potential threat, there is no attempt to identify the nature of each sighting reported.

For more on UFO sightings in Lincolnshire, plus details of all documented sightings since 2003, see Monday's Lincolnshire Echo.
