UPDATE: 7:30pm- The A17 will be closed for resurfacing work from 8pm on March 12.

The works will be carried out overnight with plans to re-open the road by 6am on March 13.

UPDATE: 7pm- The A17 at Holdingham has been re-opened after an 11-hour closure caused by a three-lorry crash.

A lorry driver in his 40s suffered serious injuries and has been taken to Queen's Medical Centre via air ambulance.

Police closed the road after the incident that happened at around 7:30am on March 12 and it did not re-open until 6:30pm.

The road may be closed again in the near future for re-surfacing work to be carried out as a result of the crash.

UPDATE: 3:45pm- Motorists are now being advised that the A17 will remain closed at Holdingham during rush-hour.

Traffic is being diverted via Cranwell village after a crash involving three lorries and one car.

UPDATE: 3pm- Specialist machinery to extract pig feed from one of the crashed lorries has been on the scene for an hour.

The process was anticipated to take around one hour and the machine has been on site since approximately 2pm.

Police say once this has been completed the vehicle recovery should not take long. The road should be opened before 5pm.

UPDATE: 1:30pm- The A17 remains closed at Holdingham after complications with the recovery of the crashed lorries.

A special suction machine is required as one of the lorries containing 19 tonnes of pig feed, is likely to shed its load if recovery is attempted.

Police say the only thing stopping the pig feed from spilling onto the carriageway is one of the other crashed lorries propping it up.

The feed will need to be removed from the lorry before it is recovered.

A lorry driver in his 40s, from the Spalding area has been taken to Queen's Medical Centre with serious injuries.

UPDATE: 12:30pm- The A17 at Holdingham could remain closed until 3pm after a three-lorry crash.

Lincolnshire Police have warned there have been complications whilst recovering the vehicles.

ORIGINAL: A crash involving three lorries and a car has caused the A17, Newark Road to close at Holdingham.

The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance is on scene with at least one person believed to have sustained serious injuries.

The crash happened at around 7:30am on March 12 near the A15 junction.

Some of the lorries have shed their load and the road is closed east and west bound.

Diversions are in place via Cranwell and drivers are being urged to avoid the area.
