Lincoln City's first pre-season friendly at Sincil Bank finished in stalemate after they were held to a goal-less draw with Ferencvaros.

Imps boss Peter Jackson fielded all four of his summer recruits with Chris Fagan, Jamie Clarke, Joe Heath and Richard Butcher all starting.

But they could not break down a stubborn Hungarian outfit, managed by former Leeds striker Bobby Davison, who coasted to the Second Division title last term.

The nearest City came to scoring was in the second half when Butcher went close with a sizzling long-range strike.

Substitute Luca Coleman-Carr then fired inches wide at the death.

But Jackson will have been satisfied with the workout, although the tempo in the opening minutes was snail-like.

Both sides were content to casually stroke the ball around on what was a balmy summer's evening at Sincil Bank.

However, the level of excitement was raised briefly in the ninth minute when Norbert Zsivoczky's centre was heading for former Barnsley striker, Istvan Ferenczi, until Janos Kovacs diverted it for a corner.

The small band of Hungarian fans were hoping the resulting corner would yield a first goal, but the bulky frame of Danny Hone cleared with ease.

Lincoln were struggling to fashion any momentum, but striker Chris Fagan, making his debut, was demonstrating some decent touches.

Neither goalkeeper was being troubled as the game limped towards half-time and the quality was summed up when Bence Toth shinned a shot that drew ironic cheers from the Stacey West.

Lincoln did engineer a corner in the 30th minute, but Aaron Brown's delivery was too deep for Kovacs, whose header looped over the bar.

However, in the 32nd minute, the visitors came close to scoring with a sweeping move which saw Igor Pisajunk dink a pass to Adnan Ahmed.

The midfielder turned Hone beautifully, opened up his body and curled a right foot shot towards the top corner.

It looked a certain goal, until Rob Burch flung himself to his right to make a stunning fingertip save.

There was still a corner to defend however which saw Zoltan Csiszar power a header which ended with Burch making another good stop.

All Lincoln could summon in response was a shot from Jamie Clarke, who ballooned a shot over the bar after the visitors failed to clear a corner.

Ferencvaros changed their team again at half-time, sending on a totally new side.

Lincoln boss Jackson made just one change with Andy Hutchinson coming on for Jamie Clarke.

Again the start to the half was rather pedestrian, although a beautiful turn from Fagan drew a rapturous applause in the 58th minute.

He quickly drove towards goal, but his shot was deflected for a corner.

Cian Hughton was particularly catching the eye at full-back with some driving runs forward.

In the 60th minute he collected a pass from Shane Clarke, before beating his man and driving a superb cross into the box.

The goalkeeper, Balazs Megyeri, could only parry away, but it was enough to prevent Brown from having a strike at goal.

Jackson then made a double change in the 66th minute sending on Stefan Oakes for Shane Clarke and Coleman-Carr for Brown.

With both sides starting to up the tempo slightly, Lincoln almost took the lead courtesy of superb play by Butcher.

When he received the ball on the edge of the box, he skipped past his marker to unleash a powerful drive that drew a fine save from Megyeri.

Heath then smashed a 30-yarder straight at the goalkeeper before Butcher followed suit with a long-distance grass-cutter.

With 15 minutes to go, a wonderful 40-yard pass from Oakes released Coleman-Carr, who expertly cut inside, but his shot, on his weaker right-foot, was high and wide.

Hone then saw a effort saved following good work by Hutchinson, who was being asked to play a wide right role.

As full-time approached, Lincoln almost snatched a winner when defender Coleman-Carr's drilled cross shot flew inches wide.
