TALENTED twins Sam and Alex Lowes will get the chance to demonstrate their speed on a global stage this weekend.

The pair have secured wildcard rides for the Supersport race at the British round of the World Superbike Championship at Silverstone.

The Lincoln brothers are no strangers to competing at world level. Sam has raced in the World Supersport in the past – most recently last year – while Alex has raced in the European Superstock Championship.

But following a string of impressive rides in the British Supersport series this season, this weekend arguably represents their best chance of success in international racing.

Sam, of GNS Racing Honda, leads the British Championship by 35 points. Meanwhile Alex, after seeing a ride in British Superbikes fall through, has hauled his previously uncompetitive Seton Interceptor Yamaha to the brink of podium finishes.

The latter was pushing for a top three finish at the last British round at Snetterton until a mechanical problem saw him drop to 10th.

After a largely frustrating 2010 so far, the 19-year-old wants to use this weekend to put himself in the shop window for a top ride next season, perhaps in Superbikes.

"We should be in the points this weekend," declared Alex.

"It would have been nice to be on the podium at Snetterton – it would have given the team a morale boost ahead of Silverstone.

"But we'll see how we get on against the best in the world.

"It will give us good track time for when we go there later in the year, but first let's see if we can give the world boys a run for their money.

"This is a small, privateer team, but we've given the big teams in the British Championships a run for their money recently.

"Maybe people are appreciating me more because it's not the best bike.

"Hopefully people take notice because I need to be on something decent next year.

"I've got to ride every lap like a qualifying lap. I'm not saying it's a bad bike – it's a decent bike – but when everyone else (at the front) is on a good bike, it's hard work.

"Hopefully I can win a race before the end of the season."

While his brother's hopes for the weekend are more modest, Sam believes he can challenge for a top six spot, and maybe even a podium.

"I've raced in it (World Supersport) before so I know what it's about," said the former North Kesteven School pupil.

"A podium wouldn't go amiss, but a top five would be mega as well.

"It's a pressure-off weekend for us. We'll learn the track for when we go back there in the British Championship."
