University reveals plan for development
Plans visualising what Lincoln's Brayford waterfront might look like over the next decade have been revealed.
The University of Lincoln has set out its master plan for further expansion of its city centre campus.
Landscaped squares, state-of-the-art footbridges and new hubs of creativity have been factored into the ever-increasing sprawl of the university.
And a major new addition will be the Artbox – a studio space for art and design students.
It means another 900 students drawn down into the city from buildings they are currently housed in – the Greestone building in Lindum Road and Thomas Parker House in Silver Street.
And the university plans to build its third state-of-the-art footbridge from the Artbox back to Brayford Pool – a project that will alone cost around £3m.
Estates director at the university John Plumridge said the main sticking point for development in the city was the railway.
He said: "I think Network Rail have a duty to provide footpaths and bridges, it's a requirement to do that wherever."
The Artbox and the university's brand new engineering school are set to be complete by 2011/2012.

The railway was there long before the Uni was so why should they have to provide extra footbridges? That is down to the Uni to provide those if they need them.”

“Great news that the Uni is expanding. Many Lincoln businesses that are struggling would be dead without the money that the students bring in. Its buildings have given life to a previously derelict area and long may the expansion continue - there is plenty of room.”

“If the Uni has so much money, why did the County Council let them off £4m a few months ago...”

“Are the plans for the development available to the public at the present time?
Thanks in advance for any potential responses.”
