VIDEO: World champion Sam Lowes to switch to Moto2 with Speed Up
New World Supersport champion Sam Lowes will ride in Moto2 next year, it has been confirmed by his current team Yakhnich Yamaha.
In a statement released last night, Yakhnich revealed the Lincoln-born star had penned a two-year deal to ride in Moto2, just one step down from MotoGP.
And this morning Lowes confirmed he will ride for the Speed Up outfit in 2014.
“(For the) next two years Sam Lowes will race in Moto2,” said the statement by Russian team Yakhnich. “Meanwhile, he will continue his collaboration with Yakhnich Motorsport in marketing and PR activities.
“Both parts agreed that a talented rider must prove his skills in other championships.
“In summary, Yakhnich Motorsport is proud of Sam Lowes being a team member and also that he could achieve high results. On the other hand, Sam Lowes appreciates the team who believed in his talent and let him boost his career in the top level championships.
“Both parties want to thank Yamaha Europe for their important support during the season which allowed the team to fight on the highest level and win the championship.”
Lowes wrapped up the World Supersport title with second place at Magny-Cours in France yesterday.
