WITH AUDIO: Harrowing 999 calls of domestic violence victims
WITH AUDIO AND VIDEO: Thugs committing domestic violence are to be sent Valentine's Day cards warning that police are coming to get them.
The cards will be sent out this week as part of a fresh crackdown on domestic violence in the county.
-

Police will send Valentine's Day cards to those who have committed domestic violence.
The move comes as police prepare to deal with a surge in calls over the Valentine's Day period.
Now victims of domestic violence have come forward to highlight the psychological and physical trauma they have been through.
One woman, known only as Jo, has spoken publicly of the shocking violence to which she was subjected.
It began when her partner was made redundant – and came to a head when he threatened to kill her with a knife.
She said it was vital that people trapped in violent relationships sought help from the police and other agencies out there.
"Looking back, I don't know how I coped," she said.
"I was walking on eggshells."
Officials say that one in four women will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lives – as well as one man in every six.
Statistics show that just over 6,200 incidents of domestic abuse were reported in the county between April and December last year – or a startling 25 calls every day.
And detectives say this is only the tip of the iceberg – with 35 incidents of abuse taking place on average before a victim reports it.
The fresh clampdown on such abuse is part of the county force's Operation NOVA, and will remain a police priority for at least the next two years.
Victims are being urged to come forward.

“Oh come on Shawn..We all know men get abused as well as women and i'm sure if their considered batterers they will be sent a card..You have such a negative attitude..Any idea no matter how trivial you think it is will bring awareness to what domestic violence is, is not stupid.. You need to open your mind and close your mouth..”

“Only Lincolnshire Police would come up with a STUPID idea like this. A WASTE OF MONEY (but that is what lincolnshire Police are good at). Will they be sending out these to Female abusers too? I think not. Males get abused more than you think, and more go unreported. Where a male abuser gets a criminal record. A female abuser gets, welfare support, a house, tax payers money and the kids. The system is wrong. I have first hand experience of this, as I was abused, I reported it to the Police, and to my surprise. Nothing was done. Instead she got given the above. So WELL DONE LINCOLNSHIRE CLOWN (police) SERVICE.”

“I'd like to know exactly how this works. Do the police have a list of all 'thugs' currently committing domestic violence? If so, why are they not arresting these people? If the cards are being sent out to men have previously been accused or reported of such a crime do the clevertons at the police not think that they are probably still living with the partner they were accused of abusing.
Is this a joke?”

“This is a gross act of stupidity, even if the woman has come forward, and got away then may be got back with her partner, or may be she is away from the situation and living in a safe house or with relatives, or worse still she is thinking of contacting them for help for the first time or again to get away from the situation, and the partner who is abusing her sees a card like that, he will in his ignorance think she might have reported him to the police, the consequences of this idea lead to the unthinkable, she needs to be protected, not put in a situation of serious harm at the expense of trying to show these !!!!!!!!!!! s just what they are, the media can do all these warning tactics, please stop it now, rethink it again, use the media, much more powerful, much more anonymous and safer for the woman and children.”
