The group is a working arm of New Life Fellowship Boston which runs Mission Overseas projects. Its current main focus is on Westwood Rehabilitation Centre, a Leonard Cheshire Children’s Home, in Zimbabwe which caters for about 50 children with disabilities. Most of these children are under 10 years of age and come from poor and quite often, broken families.

Spokesman and one of the organisers, Trish Tsuro said: “Helping Hands has been supporting the children for two years now since launching with payments of physiotherapy fees, purchases of much needed equipment and adaptation of facilities to make them accessible.

“Sponsor-a-child appeals have resulted in two of the children getting much needed prosthetic replacements. Westwood Rehabilitation Centre operates mainly as a day centre but has 12 children who stay in their hostels during term time as their families live in villages far away.

“It is important to note that disability is not yet readily accepted in countries like Zimbabwe as it is here and is quite often met with rejection and remorse, which makes these children vulnerable and victims of neglect.

“This is one of the reasons why we chose to support this centre, because every child deserves a chance.”

New Life Fellowship Boston also supports local children through its Kidz Klub. A bus picks up primary school going children every Sunday morning during term time, from Boston to the Junction in Kirton. For a couple of hours, these children are provided with fun, games, Bible Study, a snack and drink before being driven back home.

It also supports RoadHOG, the fun double-decker bus that parks in different locations throughout Boston, providing youths with a safe place to hang out and have fun.

Many local businesses are contributing to the event in forms of providing services, performances or gift donations for raffles and auctions. These so far include;

Graves Park Social Club, Country Gourmet, The Ballon Company, Anita Holmes Decor, Chris Cook Printers and Stationery, Tina’s Tribute, PC Power, Afrotec, AJ Dance, SalsaLoco, Darren Garwood Photograhy, The Mastenbrokes of Elm Grange, K Mugglestone and Co. Jaguar Conversions and Boston Target.

The event will start at 7pm and comprises a three course meal by Country Gourmet, some fundraising activities like a raffle, auction and fun games and competition and a disco. There will be professional photography by Darren Garwood and guests may have their photographs printed on site. Special highlights of the evening include dance performances by AJ Dance and SalsaLoca.

Tickets cost £30 per person. Please contact Trish 07766 653576 or Bonni 07825 165391. Tickets are also on sale at Graves Park.
