A NATIVITY scene in Lincoln city centre is the latest target of vandals.

The crib located near the tourist information office in Cornhill, was attacked on Saturday but the yobs failed to escape with the heavy iron cash box attached to it.

Market trader, David Bird (60) is a member of the Knights of St Columba, a catholic charity organisation attached to Our Lady of Lincoln Catholic Church which arranges the annual display.

"Vandalising the crib seems to be a yearly occurrence, despite it being in view of the CCTV cameras outside Monsoon and WH Smiths," said Mr Bird.

"I was at Mass on Sunday morning and the people who erected the crib were very upset.

"The vandals jumped up and down on it and tried to smash the cash box but they could not lift it as it is made of heavy duty iron.

"It is always very sad when this happens."
